IoR consults on pathway to net-zero

UK: The Institute of Refrigeration (IoR) is seeking feedback and comments on two policy papers making recommendations for users of RACHP equipment on the journey to net zero.

Published by the IoR’s environment initiative Beyond Refrigeration, the policy papers suggest recommended changes to national policy, legislation, and incentives necessary to support changes in seven critical areas.

“The IoR’s remit is to promote the advancement of cooling technology for the public benefit – addressing environmental issues are critical,” explained IoR chief executive Miriam Rodway. “The Beyond Refrigeration template sets ambitious targets and shows that we believe that the net zero aspiration is possible for our sector – if we work together.  In developing the template and the draft policy briefs we invite everyone – the entire range of users as well as specialists – to consider how they will engage in the journey to achieve net zero for our sector.”

The Heating and Cooling policy brief recommendations are organised around the seven themes highlighted by Beyond Refrigeration – reducing the need for mechanical heating and cooling, achieving best performance, balancing heating and cooling, making use of best available technology, using energy intelligently, developing the best people and skills, whole system sustainability and more.

The Developing the Best People and Skills policy brief details policy options to effect lasting change for employers and people across owner operator knowledge and end-user awareness, technician skills and design and consulting engineer skills.

The full Beyond Refrigeration Template showing ambitions and steps towards a net zero future for heating and cooling as well as a growing list of resources, case studies and tools can be found here.

Comments on the policy briefs should be addressed to the environment committee at ior@ior.org.uk by 23 November.
