Taking heat pumps to government
4th October 2026
UK: The Heat Pump Association UK and Nesta took heat pumps to the Welsh parliament last month, giving key policy makers the opportunity to see the technology in action.
Held just outside the Pierhead building on the Senedd estate, the Hear, See and Feel a Heat Pump event sought to raise awareness and correct the myths surrounding heat pumps.
Whilst Wales already leads the UK in heat pump installations per capita, HPA UK and Nesta maintain that installation rates will need to increase substantially to meet long-term clean heat ambitions.
Attendees included members of the Senedd from across major political parties, including sponsoring Anthony Slaughter, leader of the Welsh Green Party.
“Wales has already shown leadership in renewable energy uptake, but we now need firm policy and financial commitments from the new Welsh government to really make strides in helping make clean heating accessible to everyone,” Slaughter said. “Being able to bring these heat pumps to the Senedd is a great way of showcasing the opportunity they present for creating good, local and sustainable jobs, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, and building a greener, fairer future for communities across Wales.”
The event featured heat pumps from Mitsubishi Electric and Vaillant, with manufacturers and industry experts on hand to help policymakers experience the benefits of heat pumps provide. Representatives from Wolseley Renewables Centre also joined the event to showcase how investment in training and supply chains is helping to support employment, skills and the growth of the clean heat sector across Wales.
