UK: Toshiba Carrier UK signed a new two-year deal as lead sponsor of SkillFridge – the refrigeration and air conditioning skills competition for UK apprentices.

Commenting on the continued support of the initiative Toshiba Air Conditioning UK MD David Dunn, said: “As a global leader in high efficiency, high performance air conditioning, we have a key role in supporting and encouraging the industry to improve the level of knowledge and technical skills.”

SkillFridge is the National skill competition for students and apprentices studying up to Level 3 RACHP, with regional heats leading to The Skills Show organised by Worldskills UK.

“SkillFridge is a fantastic initiative – it challenges young trainees to improve their skills and knowledge, and rewards the pursuit of excellence,” said David Dunn. “Toshiba Carrier UK is committed to raising standards and our support for SkillFridge over many years is part of our long-term strategy aimed at raising skill levels. Our involvement allows us to highlight the advantages of having the highest level and best quality training.”

A number of other brands have committed their support to the 2018 edition of SkillFridge, including A-Gas, Advanced Engineering, Dean & Wood, Fieldpiece, Safeflame and Vulkan Lokring.

Competitor registration is now closed for this year’s SkillFridge. Several regional heats will take place at colleges and training centres across the UK between May and August.

The seven highest scoring competitors will be invited to compete in the SkillFridge final at The Skills Show, organised by WorldSkills UK, in November 2018. As well as producing a SkillFridge gold medallist, any eligible participant in the final will be considered to represent Great Britain at the international WorldSkills competition.

Companies interested in supporting the event are invited to contact Karena Cooper on 01622 699 150 or at kcooper@datateam.co.uk.
