Workers clash with police at Daikin’s Neemrana factory

INDIA: About 50 protesters and 22 policeman are reported to have been injured after workers tried to enter Daikin’s factory in Neemrana during a two-day national strike.

According to the Times of India today, clashes broke out when 700 to 800 protesting workers tried to enter the factory and hoist a union flag. As many as 22 policemen were injured after the workers allegedly threw stones. Police also used 35 tear gas shells and resorted to cane charging.

Union leaders claimed about 50 workers were injured in the police action, two of them critically.

The two-day strike, which continues tomorrow, was called by trade unions in protest at government “anti-labour” policies.
