J&E Hall semi-hermetic air-cooled ammonia chiller

UK: J&E Hall has announced a new low-charge air-cooled ammonia chiller based on HallScrew single-screw semi-hermetic compressors.

It is said to be ideal for a host of applications including for cold store cooling between -18°C and +15°C, for process cooling between -25°C and +7°C, as well as comfort cooling.

Available with single or dual compressors, it offers cooling capacities from 350kW to 960kW in high temperature, 195kW to 550kW in medium temperature and 100kW to 260kW in low temperature.

The chiller’s condenser employs variable speed-controlled fans and the low-noise condenser fan profile limits the noise level when operating at high speed. An optional acoustic housing can further reduce sound levels and protect the equipment from low temperature winter conditions.

The control panel includes a compact micro-controller, cloud-based monitoring, and touch screen interface. A refrigerant-cooled variable speed drive is also integrated to boost energy efficiency.

For safety and peace of mind, the chiller is also fitted with an ammonia leak detection system offering constant monitoring.

“The use of semi-hermetic compressor design is ideal for packaged ammonia chiller systems, increasing the overall reliability and reducing maintenance requirements,” insisted J&E Hall technical director Manuel Camacho.

At the heart of the air-cooled chiller is the HallScrew semi-hermetic compressor, which is designed specifically for ammonia refrigerant and offers maximum reliability.

J&E Hall has also developed a water-cooled ammonia chiller range to sit alongside the air-cooled chiller and will offer many of the same benefits, the company says.
