AIT opens €3m heat pump test lab

AUSTRIA: The Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) has officially opened what it claims is the country’s most modern heat pump laboratory.

The laboratory was completed this month after a year in construction and an investment of €3m.

It offers test benches for devices with heating outputs up to 100kW, so mainly serving the growing market in the commercial and large-scale building sector. The focus is on air-source heat pumps for all relevant refrigerant classes, including flammables.

The equipment also includes sound optimisation facilities and the option of dynamic operation in combination with simulation models.

With approximately 25 years of experience and more than 700 tested heat pump systems, AIT is seen as one of the leading European research institutions in this field.
