Ammonia blast under investigation
USA: Authorities are investigating an ammonia explosion and leak at a food manufacturing plant on Friday morning in Illinois, near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
A female worker at the Grecian Delight Foods facility in Elk Grove sustained burns to her face during the blast and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to local tv station ABC7. A member of the hazmat team was also taken to hospital, suffering from exhaustion.
About 100 people are said to have been working at the facility at the time of the explosion, which blew out the wall on one side of the building. The explosion also caused a water main leak in the area.
