Arkema adds HFO blends in deal with Honeywell

FRANCE: Arkema is to expand its range of lower GWP HFO blend refrigerants through a new commercial arrangement with Honeywell.

The move, it says, will strengthen global supply chains, address increased demand for HFO blends and ensure continued supply, consistent with the HFC phasedown.

The new HFO blends, which will be sold under Arkema’s Forane brand, include R454B, R448A, R449A, R452A and R513A.

With a GWP of 466, R454B is an A2L refrigerant designed to replace  R410A in new equipment.

R448A and R449A are lower GWP, A1 replacements for R404A, R507A, R22 and R407. They are particularly well-suited for use in low to medium commercial refrigeration applications, including supermarkets, cold storage rooms, walk-in coolers and freezers, refrigerated display cases, and centralised rack systems.

R452A is another alternative replacement for R404A in transport refrigeration. It has a high GWP of around 2141 but that is a substantial reduction on R404A’s 3922.

R513A is a blend of R134a (44%) and R1234yf (56%) and has a GWP of 631. It is an A1 non-flammable commonly used in chillers as an alternative to R134a.
