Carrier to drop Toshiba name in Japan

JAPAN: Toshiba Carrier Corporation is to change its name in Japan to Carrier Japan Corporation (Nippon Carrier Corporation) from May 1.

The move follows Carrier’s acquisition of Toshiba’s 60% stake in the former joint venture business in 2022.

Two other group companies, Toshiba Techno Systems Co and Toshiba Carrier Engineering, will also change their names to Carrier Japan Air Technology and Carrier Japan Engineering, respectively.

In line with this, the company also plans to move its Japanese head office from Kawasaki City to Shinagawa Ward.

The Toshiba and Toshiba Carrier names will be retained as product brands.

The dropping of the Toshiba name looks set to be repeated across Toshiba Carrier’s other global businesses. External communications & social media director Jason Shockley told the Cooling Post: “Post acquisition of Toshiba Carrier Corporation (TCC), all these companies are part of Carrier Corporation and over time the names of the legal entities shall change to reflect the same. The business operations as well as our go-to-market brands shall continue to be the same with no impact to our customers and business associates.”
