Clivet opens new €24m heat pump factory

ITALY: Production is now underway at a new €24m Clivet heat pump factory in Feltre, northern Italy.
The 14,000m2 factory is dedicated to the large-scale production of heat pumps, with a particular focus on applications in the commercial sector and the use of “natural” refrigerants.
Describing the new facility as a strategic milestone in Clivet’s growth journey, Clivet chairman and CEO Stefano Bellò said: “We have chosen to invest in our territory to ensure the timely development of the solutions demanded by the European market, to increase production capacity in both heating and cooling technologies, and to provide customers and partners with systems that combine comfort, energy efficiency and sustainability.”
The new production lines will assemble the Sheen series (30, 60, 90kW), Thunder (R290), Storm, Sheen 130kW and Modular HP ranges for the American market.
When operating at full capacity, the new production lines will be able to manufacture 8,800 units a year, doubling the current capacity for those specific product lines.
“The strong demand for Clivet products in the commercial sector and the development of new markets on the horizon will see 70% of its production destined for export, particularly to markets in central and northern Europe, where demand for heat pumps for decarbonisation in the commercial sector is constantly growing,” said Bellò.
The new building is powered by a photovoltaic system comprising 1,008 panels with a total capacity of 805kWp. This is expected to covers 67% of energy consumption, with an estimated self-consumption rate of 87%, the surplus energy being fed into the grid.
“We have developed the production lines by applying the principles of lean manufacturing, with the aim of creating more efficient workflows, eliminating waste and focusing on activities that generate value for the customer,” explained Clivet’s plant manager Marco Bertazzo.
The production lines have also been designed to integrate robots, collaborative robots and automated guided vehicles.
The workforce currently comprises 30 office staff and 50 production staff, and a plan for further recruitment has already been drawn up in line with market growth.
The new facility is part of the expansion process that Clivet is driving within the European division of Midea Building Technologies, which first led to the creation of an Innovation Centre in Padua, which was inaugurated last summer.
Clivet has applied for LEED Silver certification.
