Copeland celebrates first Indian scrolls
17th January 2026
INDIA: US compressor manufacturer Copeland has completed the first phase of a $55m investment at its Atit, India, manufacturing facility.
The expansion strengthens Copeland’s capabilities in India by localising scroll hermetic compressor manufacturing, making it the only company to manufacture scroll compressors in India.
The completion of phase one was marked by a ceremony for the shipment of the inaugural batch of 5hp India-built scroll compressors.
The investments will expand Copeland’s existing Pune manufacturing facility by an additional 7,350m2 and the addition of a 15,000m2 R&D centre.
Over the last two years, more than 350 SKUs have been added across multiple categories at the Atit site. The facility has also furthered the development of compressors compatible with low-GWP refrigerants including R32, R290, R454A and R454B.
With a strong focus on transport segments including railways, metro systems and e-bus applications, the Atit facility has grown into a diversified manufacturing hub producing compressors, condensing units and heat pumps that support the energy transition, adoption of low GWP refrigerants and sustainable cold chain infrastructure.
