Daikin recognised for Ostend investment

BELGIUM: Japanese air conditioning manufacturer Daikin has been shortlisted for an award for its investment last year in its European hq in Ostend.

The company is one of five companies nominated by local business development organisation Flanders Investment & Trade. The Foreign Investment Trophy recognises remarkable investments made by foreign companies in Flanders.

Daikin invested €25.5m last year in its Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters and factory, which has been established in Ostend since 1972. €6.6m was spent on its R&D center for new test rooms as well as cloud connectivity and marketing software.

As part of the investment, Daikin Europe implemented a plan in 2016 to hire 35 extra engineers by the end 2017, and commissioned the installation of two state-of-the-art testing chambers in Ostend.
