Daikin suspends Russian business

BELGIUM: Daikin is the latest air conditioning and heat pump manufacturer to suspend business in Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement the Japanese manufacturer announced: “Daikin’s entities in Europe have suspended business in Russia in consideration of the current situation of economic, logistics and others.”

In addition, like fellow manufacturer Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin Europe is to donate €1m to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to support humanitarian aid to the people in Ukraine and those suffering displacement as a result of the conflict.

Daikin will also be donating products for refugee accommodation and educational facilities, while Daikin Europe employees are also raising funds to support their Ukrainian colleagues and their families.

Masatsugu Minaka, senior executive officer of Daikin Industries and chairman of the board of Daikin Europe said: “Daikin Europe has more than 1,000 Ukrainian employees working at our two factories in the Czech Republic and many more across our group. We are heartbroken by the difficult situation in their home country and hope that a peaceful and safe world will return as soon as possible. Daikin will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure the safety and security of our employees, as well as cooperate with humanitarian relief efforts.”

Daikin products are sold in Russia through four distributors – Daichi, United Elements Group, Thermotrade and DAC.
