€40,000 for supermarket slip
IRELAND: A 65-year-old woman from Cork has been awarded €40,000 in compensation after slipping on a wet floor caused by a supermarket refrigeration unit.
The report in the Irish Examiner says the woman, Eileen O’Mahony, slipped and fell on a wet floor while shopping in a Dunnes store in Cork.
The court heard that the floor had become wet as a result of water leaking from a refrigeration unit on the aisle. Ms O’Mahony is reported to have suffered soft tissue injuries to the right side of her back, as well as to her neck and right ankle.
In May, the Cooling Post reported that the Co-Op had been fined £400,000 after a customer died having slipped on water leaking from a faulty sandwich chiller in a store in Truro, UK. That instance was said to have been caused by an intermittent water leak from a sandwich chiller.
