Electrolux to invest €130m in Italian refrigeration plant

SWEDEN/ITALY: Electrolux is to invest €130m in its refrigeration manufacturing facility in Susegana, Italy.

The investment is part of the company’s manufacturing investment programme announced in 2017 and totalling around €760m over the next 4-5 years.

Electrolux says the investment focuses on automation, digitalisation and improved innovation capabilities through new modularised product platforms. It is expected to generate annual cost savings of approximately SEK3bn (€285m) with full effect from 2024.

The decision to invest in Susegana is said to have been taken following an agreement with local unions regarding the continued industrial development of Electrolux operations in Italy. Scheduled to be completed in 2022, the investment includes two new assembly lines and resources for product and process development.

Electrolux says this will support the competitiveness of its built-in refrigeration products and enable the company to achieve top performance levels in coming European energy label regulations. The upgrade will also entail improved ergonomics at workstations throughout the facility.
