Hitachi sees global expansion after JV sale

JAPAN: Hitachi has confirmed the acquisition of the commercial air conditioning factory which had been owned under its former joint venture business with Johnson Controls.

The acquisition of the Shimizu factory was part of the deal which saw the purchase of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning Holding (UK) Ltd joint venture to Robert Bosch GmbH. Hitachi says the deal will accelerate a global expansion of Hitachi-branded air conditioning products through the Bosch Home Comfort Group.

The business of the Shimizu factory was transferred to a newly established company, Hitachi Air Conditioning Shimizu Inc, and will be merged with Hitachi Global Life Solutions (GLS) later this year.

Through the Shimizu factory, Hitachi says it will integrate the development, manufacturing, sales, and maintenance services for the commercial air conditioning business in Japan to develop competitive products tailored to market needs. Combining the large installed base of HVAC units, AI and digital capabilities, it will look to accelerate its expansion into growing markets such as green buildings and data centres.

The JCH JV factory in Tochigi, which was acquired by Bosch in the transaction, will retain development and manufacturing operations, while Hitachi GLS will remain responsible for sales and aftermarket services.
