Middleby buys Desmon refrigeration business

Desmon-SpA

USA: The Middleby Corporation has acquired Italian refrigerated food service company Desmon SpA.

Based in Nusco, near Naples, Desmon has annual revenues of approximately €12m. Well known for their advanced insulation technology and energy efficiency, Desmon’s products include blast chillers and refrigeration for the commercial kitchen. The company was founded in 1994 by the De Santis family.

The Middleby Corporation is a global leader in the foodservice equipment industry. The company develops, manufactures, markets and services a broad line of equipment used in the commercial foodservice, food processing, and residential kitchen equipment industries.

“Blast chilling offered by Desmon is complementary to our combi-oven platform to establish a complete cook/freeze system which increases the efficiency of the kitchen and saves on food costs,” said Selim A. Bassoul, chairman and ceo of The Middleby Corporation.

“Opportunities to combine their undercounter refrigeration lines with Middleby cooking lines to make an integrated preparation and cooking system are particularly appealing to our global restaurant chain customers. Our customers are now focusing more and more on fresh and healthier menu items. Blast chilling fits well into that growing trend and it is a disruptive way to rapidly freeze food retaining all of the nutrients.”
