Mitsubishi to increase scroll compressor output in Thailand

JAPAN: Mitsubishi Electric is to invest around $18m to increase production capacity at its Siam Compressor Industry Co air conditioner compressor factory in Thailand.

The investment will see annual production of scroll compressors grow eventually to 870,000 units, up from 745,000 units. The factory will increase production beginning in October 2022.

As part of the expansion, the upgraded factory will adopt various new environmental measures, such as integrated production processes to shorten production cycles and energy-saving production methods to reduce CO2 emissions.

The investment is in response to a rise in demand for air conditioners due to more working from home during the coronavirus pandemic, and an increase in sales of air-to-water heat pumps and water heaters in Europe. Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric also expects to see the demand for large room air conditioners, especially in the US, to continue rising.
