Japanese AC shipments hit record levels

JAPAN: Japanese shipments of room air conditioners reached record levels in September – the 13th consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
Latest figures released by the Japan Electrical Manufacturers’ Association (JEMA) record shipments of 915,000 units in September, an increase of 42% on the previous year and the 9th consecutive month of double-digit growth.
Total shipments reached 7,323,000 units for the first half of this fiscal year – an increase of 25.5% on the same period last year.
JEMA points to heightened demand ahead of target years set by the Energy Conservation Act, the impact of local government subsidies, and an exceptionally hot summer as factors helping to drive this increase.
