Munters expands US data centre production

USA: Climate control company Munters is to expand its data centre technologies factory in Daleville, Virginia.

According to the company, the investment will enable it to increase production capacity and enable domestic manufacturing of chillers for the US market, as well as for the construction of a fully functional climate test chamber for chillers.

Munters currently produces chillers in Italy through the recently acquired Geoclima. The expansion enables local production of Geoclima’s chiller technology, delivering complete chilled water solutions for liquid and air cooling in the US.

Production will focus on smaller units like chilled water air handling units, fan coil arrays and cooling distribution units (CDUs). Larger units, such as SyCool chillers and air handling units, will continue to be sourced from the former Geoclima facility in northeastern Italy.

The enlargement adds 18,580 m² of production space to the adjacent lot of the current 34,000m2 Daleville factory. This will consolidate all production activities in Virginia into a single location and includes the construction of a new test laboratory for chillers.

The company relocated data centre cooling production from its plant in Buena Vista, to the Daleville facility in 2022. Together with Munters’ facility in Texas, the expansion at Daleville will provide nearly 65,000m² of space in the USA dedicated to data centre cooling systems.

The construction of the expansion begins in spring 2025 and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
