Nidec opens new FMS compressor line

BRAZIL: Nidec has officially inaugurated a new production line for Embraco FMS compressors at its Joinville, Brazil, factory.

The new line will have the capacity to produce up to five million Embraco FMS compressors per year.

The inverter-controlled FMS compressor, running on R600a, is designed for a wide range of applications in the residential refrigeration market, from small wine or beer coolers to large multi-door refrigerators. Despite its small size (123mm), it has the same cooling capacity (up to 265W) of larger compressors.

The inauguration ceremony welcomed government representatives on a guided tour of the facility – the Nidec group’s first to be recognised as carbon-neutral.

Nidec ACIM’s director, Katia Drusian, said: “By inaugurating this new production line, we are actively contributing to accelerate the production of more efficient refrigerators worldwide. More efficient refrigerators mean lower energy bills for families and lower emissions for the planet. What starts here in Joinville will reach customers and consumers in Brazil, Latin and North America, Europe, India, and Asia.”

Alberto Casnati, president of the Nidec Global Appliance business platform, emphasised the importance of investing in increased production of the Embraco FMS: “By focusing on the production of the FMS, we take an important step toward the highest standards of energy efficiency, while contributing to the democratisation of variable-speed technology in Brazil and around the world delivering more energy savings, lower noise levels, and advanced technology to end customers.”
