Panasonic to launch larger CO2 CU

EUROPE: Panasonic is set to follow up the European launch of a 2hp CO2 refrigeration condensing unit last year with a 10hp unit in medium and low temperature versions.

The new 7.3kW condensing unit expands the range to applications in small shops operating multiple refrigerated cabinets and freezers.

Like the 2hp units, the heart of the new condensing unit is Panasonic’s rotary 2-stage CO2 compressor.

In a statement, Panasonic said “In order to prevent global warming and to realise environmentally conscious stores, we will continue to aggressively promote the development of equipment compatible with CO2 refrigerant.”

Panasonic is well known as a major player in the commercial refrigeration market in the Far East and a pioneer in the adoption of CO2. Its energy-efficient and environmentally conscious refrigerated and freezer display cases for supermarkets and convenience stores are available in Japan, China and other parts of Asia. In 2015, Panasonic acquired major US display case manufacturer Hussmann.

The new 10hp units will be available from next month and it is thought that this will be followed by 15hp and 20hp models later this year. A 30hp cascade system is also expected.
