Refrigerant prices expected to stabilise

Per Bertland: “The assessment is that prices will remain stable over the next few quarters”

SWEDEN: With the sharp increases in refrigerant prices appearing to have slowed, the CEO of Europe’s leading refrigeration wholesaler sees prices remaining stable over the coming months.

In announcing its latest trading figures today, Beijer Ref CEO Per Bertland explained that the refrigerant price increases were a direct consequence of the European F-gas phase out. “At present these price rises have slowed down, and the assessment is that prices will remain stable over the next few quarters,” he said.

The company recognises that the F-gas regulations in Europe is one of the main reasons why demand for its products is increasing. “The phase-out programme is continuing, and we see no signs of reduced activity,” said Per Bertland.

He also referred to the recent IPCC report calling for urgent action to step up controls on short-lived climate pollutants like HFC refrigerants to achieve climate targets to 1.5ºC by the year 2100.

“Our industry has a great responsibility in this matter and we must be proactive if this goal is to be achieved,” commented Per Bertland. “Beijer Ref’s focus on developing eco-friendly solutions therefore feels even more urgent. We have a long tradition and a great deal of knowledge of such technology in Europe. We are now passing on this know-how to our companies on other continents.”
