Russia ratifies Kigali

RUSSIA: The Russian Federation is the latest country to ratify the Kigali Amendment in the global push to reduce the use of HFCs.

Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a resolution on the adoption by the Russian Federation of an amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in March.

Under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, countries commit to cut the production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80% over the next 30 years.

“Our joint efforts to implement the Montreal Protocol present a successful example of international cooperation to resolve environmental issues at a planetary scale. It is only by working together that we can succeed in limiting global warming to 1.5 to 2ºC by 2050,” the Russian deputy prime minister Viktoria Abramchenko said.
