7th October 2026
PHILIPPINES: The Philippines customs authority has raised the equivalent of nearly US$200,000 from the auction of an estimated 40 tonnes of seized illegal refrigerant.
Two public auctions of the forfeited refrigerant gases were conducted by the Bureau of Customs for the Port of Manila’s Cargo Disposal Division on September 10 and 30.
In a news release, the Bureau of Customs said five lots were offered during the first auction and 12 during the second, with one lot sold in each session.
Although not confirmed by the Bureau of Customs, the Cooling Post believes that the lot sold in the first auction on September 10 comprised a total of 2,830 cylinders of R32 and R410A and raised the equivalent of US$121,000. The remaining portion of the overall US$196,000 was generated from the subsequent auction lot on September 30.
The approved bidders were said to have been required to secure the necessary permits to ensure compliance with Philippines environmental regulations.
