Solid state fridge gains EPA award

USA: A solid state medical refrigerator has earned the Energy Star Emerging Technology Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
The award for Phononic’s Evolve 5.5ft³ Protect Plus compressor-free refrigerator follows on the heels of the first ever Energy Star Certification awarded in July.
The Emerging Technology Award recognizes innovative products that demonstrate the ability to reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features or functionality.
Evolve’s compressor-free design is said to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% versus competitors while meeting guidelines for the controlled storage of vaccines and pharmaceutical drugs.
