Solstice enables A-Gas to reclaim HFO/HFC blends
19th June 2026
EUROPE: Solstice has signed an agreement enabling the lifecycle refrigerant management company A-Gas to recover and reclaim its R404A/R507 replacement blends.
This story replaces yesterday’s news story which contained a number of inaccuracies.
The agreement covers Europe only, and relates solely to three blends: R448A, R449A and R452A.
R448A and R49A were developed and patented by Chemours and Solstice (then Honeywell) who cross licence the two gases as replacements for R404A, R507, R22 and R407 in low- and medium-temperature commercial refrigeration. The refrigerants differ slightly in the proportion of blend components. The GWP of R448A is 1387, while R449A has a GWP of 1397.
R452A is used as a replacement for R404A and R507 in low temperature transport refrigeration applications and has a GWP of 2140
While none of these refrigerants could be considered low GWP, they are significantly lower than the refrigerants they are designed to replace.
Under the new agreement, Solstice will supply A-Gas with the required HFOs for the reclaimed HFC refrigerant blends.
“A-Gas’ lifecycle refrigerant management model supports and enables end-of-life gases to be recovered, reclaimed to AHRI 700 standards and returned to the market,” commented A-Gas CEO Jack Govers. “This process helps preserve valuable resources, avoid or minimise emissions and support compliance as the industry adapts to accelerated HFC phase down requirements.”
In November 2022, Chemours and Honeywell announced a pilot scheme to enable qualified companies to recycle and reclaim R448A and R449A. The following year, Chemours authorised A-Gas as a reclaimer of R448A and R449A.
