Swegon acquires German AHU manufacturer

SWEDEN/GERMANY: Swedish HVAC manufacturer Swegon has extended its modular air handling unit interests with the acquisition of family-owned German company Howatherm Klimatechnik.

Established in 1969, Howatherm is headquartered in Brücken, 50km south east of Stuttgart. Its modular air handling units are sold primarily to the German market, but with a small subsidiary in Luxemburg for sales in the Benelux region. Howatherm has 170 employees and posts sales €32m in 2023.

This latest acquisition follows the purchases in 2022 of Italian AHU manufacturer Samp and UK company Dalair.

“With this acquisition, we strengthen our position on the German HVAC market, the largest market for air handling units in Europe,” said Swegon Group CEO Andreas Örje Wellstam.

“Together with our recent acquisitions of Samp in northern Italy and Dalair in the UK&I, both focusing on modular air handling units, we now have a strong coverage of the European market.”

The acquisition is subject to approval by antitrust authorities and closing is expected during January 2025.
