SWITZERLAND: Two new cases linked to the legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Basel have been reported, with one of those infected requiring hospital care.
The total number of cases of infection with the legionella pneumophila bacterium now stands at 28, with one fatality. Six people are still in hospital.
Of ten facilities tested in the vicinity of the cluster, eight showed exceedances of the limit for legionella bacteria.
The most likely source of infection is now believed to be two cooling towers on the roof of department store chain Manor’s head office in Kleinbasel.
