UL opens expanded heat pump testing facility

USA/ITALY: US testing company UL Solutions has announced an expansion of its facility in Carugate, Italy, to meet growing European demand for comprehensive heat pump performance and safety testing.

The expanded Carugate laboratory offers HVAC services, including performance testing in addition to the company’s safety expertise, specifically for European manufacturers of residential and commercial heat pumps.

The new laboratory in Carugate offers essential testing services related to energy efficiency, safety, and ecodesign requirements for the environmental performance of air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps. The tests focus on energy consumption in standby and off mode, a heat pump’s efficiency in heat transfer, and sound power levels. In addition, the laboratory offers wireless and electromagnetic compatibility analyses for heat pump operation near electronic devices or electromagnetic emissions.

UL Solutions complements these services with UL Marketing Claim Verification and customised research and development programmes.

In Europe, UL Solutions supports compliance with EU regulations such as the Ecodesign directive and the Sustainable Product Design Regulation (ESPR) and is also a certification body for Keymark, the European certification mark that attests to product conformity to European standards.
