Westfalen expands refrigerant plant

Westfalen’s Gelmer facility with the proposed expansion area outlined in red

GERMANY: Münster-based refrigerant supplier Westfalen AG is to expand its gas activities at its Gelmer refrigerant facility by an extra 93,000m² by mid-2019.

The expansion will accommodate the company’s current activities at its nearby Gremmendorf site and release that area for urban development.

Westfalen group chairman Wolfgang Fritsch-Albert said that the decision would increase the company’s productivity and competitiveness.

In addition to a complete line of refrigerants, the Gelmer facility will also accommodate an expanded refrigerant recycling facility. A modern propane filling line and a hub for technical gases are also planned. A number of options at other sites are currently being tested for the bottle testing centre, which is currently located at Gremmendorf. A final decision is still pending.

The Westfalen Group operates 23 subsidiaries and affiliates in Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
