Yankee Stadium disinfected in New York LD outbreak

USA: The cooling tower at the Yankee Stadium in New York’s South Bronx is one of 10 ordered to be treated following a legionnaires’ disease outbreak in the city.
The New York City Health Department has ordered the 10 cooling towers to be cleaned and disinfected following the outbreak which, as of September 10, had infected five people and resulted in one fatality.
The 10 cooling towers tested positive for the presence of legionella bacteria through an initial polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. In total, the Health Department has tested 24 cooling towers as part of a continuing investigation.
This is the second community legionnaires’ disease cluster identified in New York City this summer, following a cluster on the Upper East Side of Manhattan that was identified in July. Multiple community clusters in a single season have occurred before in New York City, including two in 2015, 2017, and 2018, and three in 2016.
