Danfoss redesigns AB-QM control valves

DENMARK: Danfoss has redesigned and expanded its AB-QM range of pressure independent control valves in sizes DN 125–250.

The updated valves are said to offer higher nominal flow rates, a lower differential pressure requirement, and compatibility with smaller actuators. Two new Super High Flow models for large-scale HVAC, data centre and district cooling applications have also been added.

According to Danfoss, this latest update gives HVAC design engineers more flexibility for demanding applications, such as large chilled water systems and district cooling networks.

The redesigned AB-QM size L valves in sizes DN 125–250 now offer higher nominal flow rates. Across the range, the increase is between 5 and 60%, with an average of 30%.

The updated design allows the use of actuators with lower force. For example, the DN 200 and DN 250 valves no longer require the digital NovoCon XL actuator. The NovoCon L is now sufficient. This can reduce installation space and initial investment cost.

The maximum allowed differential pressure has also been increased from 600kPa to 800kPa to provide a greater safety margin in demanding systems.

To support larger HVAC and district cooling projects, Danfoss has expanded the AB-QM family with two new Super High Flow (SHF) models.

The DN 250 SHF has a nominal flow of 600m³/h and starting pressure of 80kPa, while the DN 250 SHF+ boasts a nominal flow of 670m³/h and starting pressure of 100kPa.
