Expansion valve and constant pressure regulator

DENMARK: AXV is Danfoss’ new mechanical pressure regulator, developed for both hot gas bypass and liquid expansion applications.

The AXV is said to combine performance, robustness, and simplified installation. Engineered for air driers, water chillers, ice cream machines, and frozen beverage dispensers, it claims stable operation and enhanced durability at a lower applied cost.

Danfoss insists that the AXV is a pressure regulator – not a superheat regulator. It is designed to control evaporator pressure and ensure stable evaporation of temperature across the entire evaporator surface, making it ideal for applications where constant pressure (temperature) is the primary objective.

AXV is built as a versatile pressure-regulating valve platform with two dedicated variants.

AXV-H is developed for hot gas bypass applications. Installed between the high- and low-pressure sides, it maintains compressor suction pressure by injecting hot gas. By adapting compressor capacity to the actual evaporator load, AXV-H ensures stable evaporation pressure at varying load conditions. It is designed to replace existing TUH and TCHE hot gas bypass valves, while covering up to 20% higher capacity within the same application range.

AXV-I is developed for liquid injection based on evaporation pressure. When evaporation pressure drops, the valve opens proportionally to maintain the defined setpoint. This makes AXV-I suitable for systems where constant evaporation temperature across the full evaporator is essential.

AXV is designed around a robust stainless-steel platform with laser-welded 45mm double diaphragm technology.

It is compatible with A1, A2L and A3 refrigerants (except R744 and R717).
