Frascold adds semi-hermetic ammonia compressor

ITALY: Compressor manufacturer Frascold has announced the launch of a new semi-hermetic ammonia compressor.
The new semi-hermetic ammonia screw compressor range has been named Aluminium for its use of the said metal in the compressor motor. Copper and copper alloys traditionally used in motors are vulnerable to corrosion on contact with ammonia. The compressor’s casing is made of cast iron.
The compressor was developed to meet the storage and freezing needs of large and medium-sized industries, operating in a temperature range between 5°C and -40°C, such as food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
In terms of performance, the eight models, for both low (ALU-L) and medium temperature (ALU-H) applications, allow a volumetric displacement between 315m³/h and 470m³/h at 50Hz and between 378m³/h and 564m³/h at 60Hz. The motor power ranges between 130hp and 160hp equivalent to 97kW to 120kW, operating in a wide frequency range from 30Hz to 60Hz.
The sizing pressure reaches 20.5bar on the low pressure side and 30bar on the high pressure side, while the maximum discharge temperature is 90°C. In addition, the evaporation temperatures highlights the considerable application flexibility of the range, extending from -45°C to -10°C for the low (LT) and from -20°C to +5°C for the medium temperature (MT).
