Panasonic Aquarea gets smarter with Tado

UK: Panasonic has launched two new smart features which it says will make its Aquarea heat pumps cheaper to run, longer-lasting and easier to install.

The joint development between German technology company Tado and Panasonic sees Tado’s established Heat Pump Optimizer X providing  a deeper level of integration with Panasonic’s Aquarea heat pumps.

According to Panasonic, the new development will lower heating bills even further, extend the heat pump’s lifespan, and simplify installation.

With Aquarea Sync, Panasonic heat pumps can now further reduce flow temperatures to increase efficiency by 10%, and avoid short cycling by entering true standby. It can also dynamically boost power to underperforming rooms to maintain comfort.

These actions are performed automatically based on insights from real-time communication between Tado’s Heat Pump Optimiser X and its room thermostats.

From November, hydraulic balancing of Panasonic systems will be available through the Tado collaboration. While not a requirement for heat pump subsidies in the UK, hydraulic balancing is best practice for optimising heat pump efficiency.

Traditionally, achieving this involves replacing radiator valves. Tado’s option is to simply fit Tado smart radiator thermostats onto existing valves. This optimises water flow to ensure even heat pump distribution and increases the heat pump’s efficiency.

“This next chapter in our partnership with Panasonic is about building smarter features together,” said Christian Deilmann, co-founder of Tado. “Because we’re vendor-agnostic, our system already works with many heat pumps, but our deep technical access to Panasonic’s Aquarea models let us go further than ever. These upgrades give people more comfort, more savings and more ease – all in the background, automatically.”

Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions’ MD, Enrique Vilamitjana, added: “Aquarea Sync makes your heat pump even smarter without replacing a thing. And with hydraulic balancing, we’re removing one of the biggest barriers to switching – installation hassle.”
