Uniflair chillers for liquid-cooled data centres

ITALY: Schneider Electric has launched the Uniflair XCA series of air-cooled and free-cooling chillers to meet the demands of AI-driven, high-density liquid-cooled data centres.

The air-cooled XCAC and free-cooling XCAF series use R1234ze and integrate oil-free centrifugal compressors with magnetic bearing technology and built-in variable-speed drives.

Six models are available, ranging from 1,200kW to 2,500kW, boasting an EER of 4.66.

The range employs a heat-exchange architecture that combines spray evaporator technology with V-shape microchannel coils. According to Schneider, this provides improved thermal performance while significantly reducing refrigerant charge, material usage, and overall environmental footprint.

The combination of a new V-shape coil design, and a new generation of large diameter EC fans is said to deliver higher heat exchange efficiency with increased airflow, lower acoustic impact and enabling stable operation even at high ambient temperatures.

The enhanced coil geometry and high outlet water temperatures of up to 33°C provide a boost to the performance of the free-cooling models.

The series can operate in extreme environmental conditions from -20°C to +52°C, while in moderate climates, the system can achieve up to 60% energy savings compared to mechanical cooling alone.

With numerous electrical, hydraulic, noise control, and performance enhancement options, the Schneider Electric says that the system can be customised to meet specific operational needs, improving efficiency and reducing management costs.

Built for mission-critical application, the system supports a quick restart, restoring full operational capacity within three minutes of power outage.
