Aspen wins management award

UK: Aspen Pumps has been awarded the South East Large Management Team Award by the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA).

These annual awards showcase the best businesses in the UK backed by private equity and venture capital. As well as being a strong indicator of bold and authentic leadership, the award recognises achievements in the skilled execution of projects including acquisition, international expansion and marketing innovation.

In making the award, the judges praised Adrian Thompson for “leading a company that has remained simple and pragmatic, whilst expanding both locally and internationally”.

“He and his team are driving a new phase of growth and are looking to expand into new territories having already, and impressively, established themselves in the US market,” the judges added.

The Sussex-based condensate pump and ancillaries company has conducted a number of acquisitions under its current backers 3i. Aspen followed up its acquisition of Middlesbrough-based tool specialist Javac UK in 2017, with the purchase of Basingstoke-based Advanced Engineering last year. During its four years with 3i, the company has also acquired a number of its overseas distributors.

Speaking after the awards ceremony Thompson said “This is a very proud day for the team, and marks another milestone on our successful journey with 3i since 2015. We remain focused, and we are confident that our strategic model is scalable for continued growth in years to come.”

Aspen will now go forward to the national final, the results of which will be revealed at the BVCA Annual Gala Dinner, in London this November.
