Broadbent’s marathon effort for cystic fibrosis

UK: Garry Broadbent, director of Blackpool-based CO2 refrigeration specialist Green Cooling, hopes to raise £3,000 for cystic fibrosis in next weekend’s London Marathon.

After years of trying, and despite a record number of 414,168 applicants from across the world, Broadbent was finally successful in this year’s ballot. So, for the first time on Sunday, he will line up for the annual 26.2 mile event with more than 40,000 fellow competitors.

“In terms of running pedigree, achieving a 59 minute finish at the Blackpool 10K in 2012 is the sum total of my previous experience,” he said.

This will be his first marathon, but he has been training since December and says he has given himself two challenges for the race – to finish in a respectable time, and to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
