Fridge firms named in leading company list

UK: Refrigerant supplier A-Gas was one of four refrigeration and air-conditioning-related businesses in this year’s Sunday Times PwC Top Track 250 league table.

In addition to Bristol-based A-Gas, the list of Britain’s leading mid-market private companies with the biggest sales also contained cold store rental company Dawsongroup, FM business Arcus and refrigerated vehicle manufacturer Gray & Adams.

The list is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm, and published in The Sunday Times each September.

Milton-Keynes-based Dawsongroup was the highest placed at no 63 with sales of £269.8m and operating profit of £50.5m. A-Gas was close behind at 69 with sales of £247.4m creating a profit of 8.8m.

With sales of £156.5m and profit of £8.3m, Arcus FM  was at no 153 and Gray & Adams was placed at 163, with its sales of £151.3m and £8.1m operating profit.

The Top Track 250 companies grew their combined sales by 17% to £59.6bn, and operating profits by 25% to £5.1bn in their last financial year.

Construction was the dominant industry on this year’s league table, with 52 companies, followed by consumer goods (33) and food and drink (30). Entrepreneurs and/or founders own majority-stakes in 85 companies, while 70 are family-owned and 63 are majority-owned by private equity.
