HPA UK partners with Heat Network Scotland

UK: Heat Pump Association UK has announced a new reciprocal membership partnership with Heat Network Scotland.

The partners say that the reciprocal membership will enable them to work together to share expertise, strengthen industry engagement and inform policy development needed to create the conditions for growth for the low-carbon heat network sector in Scotland.

Heat Network Scotland is an independent membership-based organisation founded in 2025. Hosted within the Centre for Future Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh, it brings together industry, academia, communities, and government to support the development of heat networks.

This collaboration is said to have come at a pivotal time for Scotland’s heat transition. The Climate Change Committee’s pathway for Scotland identifies low-carbon heating as delivering 45% of emissions reductions by 2035, with Scotland identified as having a higher potential for heat networks than the rest of the UK.

The Scottish Government has also set ambitious targets for heat network deployment, requiring heat supplied through networks to reach 6TWh by 2030 and at least 7TWh by 2035, increasing from an estimated 1.57 TWh in 2025.

Recognising that large-scale heat pumps are key components of future heat networks, Antoine Reguis, founding director of Heat Network Scotland added: “The partnership between Heat Network Scotland and the Heat Pump Association will facilitate joined-up thinking, create synergies, and support the development of an affordable, resilient, and sustainable energy system.”
