IOR briefs on heat recovery
3rd May 2026
UK: The Institute of Refrigeration has published the first in a new series of Technology Briefs on the topic of heat recovery.
This series of free resources is designed to provide an overview of technologies that will support sector decarbonisation, as highlighted by the TICR Project (Transport Industrial and Commercial Refrigeration).
The TICR project is a UK-based initiative launched in December 2022, managed by a consortium of partners led by London South Bank University and funded by the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP).
According to Chris Griffiths, chair of the IOR environmental committee that produced the guide, the brief looks to provide a clear introduction to implementing heat recovery, helping members understand and apply it effectively to support decarbonisation and communicate its benefits to customers.
Further technology briefs on topics including door retrofits for open-fronted cabinets, and demand-side response are due to be published in the coming months.
The publications are intended for a broad audience, including end‑users, designers, consultants, installers, and service and maintenance engineers.
The TICR project estimates a significant potential energy saving per year by wider adoption of waste heat recovery in the commercial sector alone.
