LSBU team wins Lightfoot Medal

Success: Catarina Marques with the Lightfoot Medal

UK: The Institute of Refrigeration’s Kenneth Lightfoot Medal for best technical paper has this year been won by a team from the London South Bank University (LSBU).

The LSBU team, led by Catarina Marques, won this year’s Medal for its project paper GreenSCIES – Green Smart Community Integrated Energy Systems – Integration with Data Centres

Presented as part of the IoR’s 2020 TechTalk calendar, the paper outlines the team’s work to deliver low carbon, affordable energy through a novel smart energy system that connects flexible electricity demands such as heat pumps and electric vehicles to intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar power. 

The winner of the Kenneth Lightfoot Medal is selected annually by votes cast by IOR members. It is named in honour of past president Kenneth Lightfoot who sought to encourage young researchers, is supported by Lightfoot Defence and the prize includes an engraved medal and a prize of £500 provided by Lightfoot Defence.
