RAC magazine bought by Metropolis

UK: RAC, the UK’s longest established air conditioning and refrigeration magazine, has been acquired along with 10 other former Emap titles by Metropolis International.

The purchase includes RAC’s annual Cooling Awards and Question Time events, as well as the H&V News Awards.

Having fallen from its former market-leading position, the magazine was merged with H&V News last year. The amalgamation decision followed EMAP’s announcement the previous year that it intended to cease print production and become a “digital and events” business. This never happened, and in January the group’s owner Ascential announced it would sell off 13 of its titles, including H&V News/RAC.

Established in 1994, Metropolis International publishes around 25 titles including Motor Trader and Record Collector magazines. It employs 300 people and has offices in West London, Croydon, Bolton, Dublin, Chester and New York.

By remarkable coincidence, Metropolis’ Croydon office is based in Davis House, the same building occupied by RAC magazine and H&V News in the 1970s when they were owned by Maclaren Publishing. However, there are thought to be no immediate plans to return the magazine to its former office and the magazine will continue to operate from its current address for the foreseeable future.
