Refrigeration duo join skills elite for world challenge

Dominic Dray (left) and Jack Newton will join the programme to train for WorldSkills 2021

UK: WorldSkills UK has selected two refrigeration apprentices for its talent programme to train for WorldSkills 2021, the “skills olympics” which will be held in Shanghai, China in 2021.

Representing the UK refrigeration industry are Dominic Dray of Royale Refrigeration and Jack Newton of Crowther and Shaw, who were both competitors at the 2019 SkillFridge event in Birmingham in November.

A SkillFridge Gold winner in 2018, 19-year-old Dominic Dray is a student at Eastleigh College.

Dray and Newton join 137 apprentices and students representing 38 different skills in the WorldSkills UK Talent Programme. They will now spend the next 18 months in training. This is fitted around their study and employment commitments before they face the ultimate selection test next year to secure a place in the team that will represent the UK at WorldSkills Shanghai 2021.

The WorldSkills Competition, which takes place every two years, sees over 1000 of the world’s most talented apprentices and students competing in over 50 different skills.
