Space man wins refrigeration Gold

UK: Sidney Copus of Space Engineering Services has won the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Gold Medal at tonight’s SkillFridge final at WorldSkills UK Live.

Copus was one of six SkillFridge regional heat winners from around the UK competing in this week’s WorldSkills UK Live event at the NEC, Birmingham.

Ben Wilson of Knight Engineering, a student at the Practical Refrigeration Centre in Burnley, took the Silver medal, while Joshua Collins, of BESA, an employee of JD Cooling, won the Bronze.

Sidney Copus joined Space Engineering Services in Bristol in 2016 in an administrative support role, before progressing to becoming a remote engineer at Space Engineering Services’ national operations centre.

Last year, Sidney and 6 other individuals were selected by Space Engineering Services to embark upon an intensive learning and development programme to become qualified refrigeration and air conditioning engineers. After successfully completing his 6090-204 Level 2 Diploma in RACHP, C&G 2079-11 F-Gas and C9/C12 Refrigeration Electrical course, Space Engineering MD Dale Nouch said of Copus: “The professional attitude, technical skills and determination that Sidney has displayed while working towards his qualification has really impressed us.”
