Tom Woolston stars at trainee awards

UK: Star Refrigeration apprentice Tom Woolston was named as the winner of this year’s ACR Trainee of the Year Awards.

A Silver Award winner at the Cooling Industry Awards earlier this year, Tom went one better at the Belfry today by winning the Trainee of the Year Award.

An industrial refrigeration apprentice at Star Refrigeration’s maintenance and service branch in Bristol, Tom is in his third year at Eastleigh College.

Runner-up this year was Oliver Drury of Kings-Lynn-based contractor JD Cooling. He attends the Grimsby Institute.

Highly commended from this year’s total of 10 finalists was Tom Fearon of Source BioScience, an international provider of state of the art laboratory services and products. He is receiving training at the Practical Refrigeration Training Centre in Burnley.

All the finalists received cash prizes and a range of tools and equipment from sponsors including Sauermann UK, ITE UK, Dean & Wood and the Institute of Refrigeration

Now in its ninth year, the annual Trainee of the Year Awards are organised by the ACR Journal. All profits from the event are ploughed back into the industry to benefit trainees and apprentices. To date the event has raised over 40,000 for industry training.
