Chiller company Smardt appoints new CEO

CANADA: Oil-free centrifugal chiller technology company Smardt has appointed Sandeep Nair as its new CEO. He succeeds Albert Yam, who transitions to executive director on Smardt’s board.
Nair previously held the role of president, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa at Copeland, and previously Emerson, between 2020 and 2025.
Described as a seasoned global executive with experience across the HVAC, data centre, telecom and industrial sectors, Nair has had responsibilities for operations across North America, Europe and Asia.
Nair’s mandate centres on building on Smardt’s installed base of over 12,000 oil-free chillers, by strengthening Smardt’s position in critical infrastructure for AI-driven data centres, while extending the company’s reach into adjacent markets including pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, new energy, green building projects, and infrastructure.
Headquartered in Montreal, Smart has manufacturing facilities in the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia, and a team of over 1,000 employees.
