Danfoss builds oil-free capabilities

DENMARK: Danfoss is expanding its Extended Oil-Free (EXO) programme to optimise oil-free HVAC systems, centred on its Turbocor compressors to increase energy efficiency, reduce noise, and minimise maintenance.
The programme will include compressors, system components, sensors, and digital services into a fully integrated solution.
Danfoss says that EXO enables OEMs to build optimised, oil-free systems with higher efficiency, improved reliability, and predictable long-term performance – meeting the growing demands of applications such as data centres, heat recovery, and comfort cooling and heating.
As part of this evolution, Danfoss is bringing in Active Cooling, a new capability for selected Turbocor compressors that is said to significantly expands operating limits and system performance.
With Active Cooling, OEMs can achieve up to 45% more capacity in high-temperature conditions, and expanded operating envelopes with higher suction and discharge temperatures. There is also said to be no power derating, even in extreme ambient environments.
With fewer compressors per system, costs and complexity are reduced.
By actively managing the thermal conditions of the compressor’s power electronics, Active Cooling enables stable, high-efficiency operation across a much wider range of conditions.
The oil-free technologies in the EXO programme now includes the OFC oil-free check valve, OFB oil-free shut-off ball valve, PTS staging valve, and DST G4ze gas sensor.
These technologies are designed to operate seamlessly as a complete oil-free system, while also being available as standalone components, allowing OEMs to adopt and integrate solutions based on their specific system design and requirements.
