AC engineer dies following “explosion”

SRI LANKA: A young engineer was killed yesterday in Sri Lanka when an air conditioning unit he was working on “exploded”.

According to local reports, the 24-year-old man from Matale was carrying out repairs to the air conditioning unit’s compressor at a hotel in the Rajasinghe Mawatha district of Kandy.

The Morning newspaper website reports that after fixing the compressor the repairman had regassed the unit with refrigerant and had attempted to switch the air conditioner on. The compressor had then exploded. The repairman sustained burn injuries and died on the spot.

The police are investigating the cause of the incident.
